About Our Host:
Sheila McCarthy
Sheila McCarthy was born in Toronto, Ontario, and is an outstanding representative of Canadian-born talent. Sheila is recognized as one of Canada's finest actresses, and she has the awards to prove it. Sheila has won two Genie Awards (film), two Gemini Awards (television), and two Dora Awards (theatre) among multiple nominations, and continues to shine in her role as Sarah Hamoudi on the CBC comedy Little Mosque on the Prairie.
Sheila has starred on the screen and stage, with many credits including Roxana, Missing, Wonderland, Road to Avonlea and Street Legal. She received Gemini nominations for her roles in Emily of new Moon and Dudley The Dragon. She has appeared in films such as Being Julia, Confessions of A Teenage Drama Queen, The Day After Tomorrow and won Genie awards for The Lotus Eaters and I've Heard the Mermaids Singing. Sheila's stage credits include Guys and Dolls, Three Penny Opera and Peter Pan and she won the Dora Mavor Moor Award for her roles in Little Shop of Horrors and Really Rosie.
Sheila has extended her talents into other areas of filmmaking, including writing and producing. In Virtual Mom, in which she costarred with Debbie Reynolds, McCarthy co-wrote the script, and produced the made-for-television movie. In December 2000, she played the title role of Peter Pan on stage in Toronto.
However, Sheila's work does not stop at the film set. She enjoys taking time out to contribute to charities such as the Fresh Air Fund and Free the Children, to help those less fortunate.
Sheila's compassion and willingness to help others now also extends to EarthTones. We look forward to seeing Sheila in action this year!
