Community Outreach

IMAGINE regularly partners with local drop-in centres and community agencies to organize outreach programmes, promote relevant charity drives, and improve social supports. We are also actively promoting awareness of our local underserved population within the university and wider community through a lecture series held at the University of Toronto.

Past events:
February 2011:
On February 14th (2011), the IMAGINE Community Awareness and Health Promotion teams organized a Valentine's Day Dinner and Healthy Heart Promotion event at the St. Felix Centre. The event was a great success and IMAGINE volunteers served over 120 people!

December 2010:
On December 14th (2010), the St. Christopher House Meeting Place held its annual holiday dinner. With about 150 invitees, the dinner saw a great turnout, with guests arriving to enjoy a traditional turkey dinner and an afternoon of socializing. The IMAGINE Outreach Committee created favours, which were given to each guest and included information regarding the IMAGINE clinic.

The following day, IMAGINE mobilized its volunteers yet again to help prepare and serve the holiday dinner at the Parkdale Meeting Place, a smaller pilot location of the St. Christopher House Meeting Place housed in the Parkdale Activity and Recreation Centre.

October 2010:
On October 4th (2010), the IMAGINE team hosted the first Community Awareness lecture. Dr. Stephen Hwang (Research Scientist, St. Michael's Hospital; Associate Professor, University of Toronto) presented his research on the health of homeless and vulnerable populations.

The IMAGINE Community Awareness lecture series is aimed at raising awareness about health issues facing marginalized populations. Lectures are free of charge and open to everyone.
