Office of Health Professions Student Affairs (OHPSA)The Counselling Service at the Office of Health Professions Student Affairs is comprised of a career counsellor, a learning skills counsellor, and a personal counsellor. The services are available, free of charge to all medical students.
Career Counselling:
The Career Counsellor/Coach for undergraduate Medical students, Carol Bisnath, and the Senior Officer, Service Learning Opportunities/Student Life Enrichment, Diana Alli, collaborate to offer a full range of career services to support students in successful career development. Hours: Carol Bisnath is available to meet with students on Thursday and Friday from 9:00 to 3:30, and Saturdays from 10:00 to 2:30. Diana Alli is available Monday to Friday from 9 am to 5 pm (after 5 pm. appointments are available for clinical clerks) to provide assistance with the Canadian and USA matches. Learning Skills CounsellingThe Learning Skills Counsellor, Reza Noori, provides individual counselling and resources to help Faculty of Medicine students, MD Undergraduate, Rehabilitation Sciences, Medical Radiation Sciences, understand the various aspects of learning and learning skills. Personal CounsellingChristopher Hurst, the counsellor/therapist at the Office of Health Professions Student Affairs provides private, confidential, short-term counselling and psychotherapy to Faculty of Medicine students in the MD undergraduate, the Rehabilitation Sciences and Medical Radiation Sciences programs. The service is free of charge. Students do not have to be in serious crisis in order to avail themselves of the counselling service. Seeking support when problems first arise helps prevent more costly consequences later. Hours: The counsellor/therapist at the Office of Health Professions Student Affairs is available to meet with students on Wednesday and Thursday from 11:00-7:00 and Friday from 10:00 to 6:00.
