About STEM

Our goal.
Students for Technology and Engineering in Medicine (STEM) was born out of the idea that Medicine is a multidisciplinary field at the vanguard of technological innovation. To help healthcare researchers, clinicians, engineers, and technicians work together to create the incredible realities of tomorrow, we strive to foster their dreams today.

Our operations.
STEM is a club at the University of Toronto that is open to all students, with emphasis on promoting emerging technologies across the many avenues of healthcare. We encourage both didactic learning opportunities as well as interactive learning experiences. Our speakers have discussed everything from new coronary artery stent technology to the use of Blackberry's in the ICU, and our interactive sessions have included hands-on exposure to new Interventional Radiology technolgies as well as magnetic resonance imaging at Sick Kids Hospital. STEM is not limited to exploring the science of medical technologies, but is also interested in the business and law of developing technological devices and ideas. It is our intent to cover topics that typically aren't part of the regular curriculum for medical, engineering, or other science students.
