Support for Medical Students The medical undergraduate student body is known for being driven, diverse, and hard-working. Sometimes, there is a need for support to help everyone reach their potential. The support services in the Faculty of Medicine are offered to make sure that all students have a fun and rewarding experience during their undergraduate medical education. In addition to the financial and emotional support offered by the Undergraduate Medical Education Office (particularly the Office of Student Affairs), the following organizations also offer assistance: The Medical Alumni Association is made up of medical graduates of the University of Toronto. Its main function is to provide assistance to medical students and stimulate the interest of alumni in the activities and development of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto. The Association supports and facilitates many faculty and student driven activities in order to enhance the quality of the undergraduate medical experience at the University of Toronto. Bursaries, awards, and scholarships, as well as transportation grants and loan funds, are provided for the benefit of undergraduate students. Student Summer Scholarships are provided for students in the first and second years to enable them to further their education. These projects are made possible by active fundraising by the Medical Alumni Association amongst its members. The Association sponsors a dinner for the graduating class, and the graduates of the classes of 50, 60, and 70 years ago, each year, at graduation time.
The Peer Support Center is designed for U of T Medical students. It's purpose is to serve as an academic, social, wellness, and financial support system that is easily accessed. It is composed of students whose goal is "to support each other and to provide our colleagues with the academic, personal, and financial resources they need to get the best education possible out of our school."
PASS is a place for students to go for confidential support and advice outside of the Undergraduate Medical Office. It was developed by students and Faculty members to provide a readily accessible alternative line of help for Faculty of Medicine students. The Program is independent of and separate from the formal sources of student support in the Dean's Offices. All visits to PASS or any of the advisors are entirely confidential. |
